Wadi Rum by camel and jeep

Wadi Rum – Looking for Lawrence of Arabia or exploring Mars?

Imagine the following scene: you ride slowly a camel, slight wind blows in your face, the sun glares from a cloudless sky upon a treeless landscape. The silence is gripping. The sand under you is hard and fades in long canyons among steep cliffs. Your journey is two hours old, but your eyes cannot get enough of the variety of red and brown colors. In the rhythm of camel steps you ride towards a beautiful evening in Wadi Rum.

That is how maybe Lawrence of Arabia felt, as he reached Wadi Rum 1917 in company of his fellow Bedouins and camped at a rock spring. In orders of his majesty he led the Arabs to a revolt against the Otomans. In his reports he expressed his adminiration for this region – no other place impressed him more due to her stunning beauty.

A camel and a jeep belong to Wadi Rum like cheese to wine. And the olives? A trip in the desert without a night under the stars is no desert trip at all. Those, who are lucky enough to spend at least two days in Wadi Rum, will be given comfortable tents, which reminds you more of yurts than our type of camping tent. When the wind blows, the sand will touch the the tent roof slightly, a noise that sounds like drizzle. But before you crawl into bed, the Bedouins will celebrate their traditional hospitality, at the fire during the opulent dinner. The food is cooked for hours under a deep layer of sand and served on a big plate for all. The highlight of the evening are the stories told by the Bedouins, along tea and shisha, and even more the nightsky, an immense collection of stars above Wadi Rum. There is not one person until today who was not impressed by this phenomena.

If you want to follow the tracks of Lawrence of Arabia on the back of a camel or to enjoy the most beautiful night spot on earth, it is up to you. But what you should not miss: to be on planet Mars once in a lifetime. And this journey starts in Wadi Rum.
