Travel Offer: Mt. Lebanon Trekking

Description:

On day 1, we meet at the Beirut airport, ideally before 4pm. Together with your trekking guide, we transfer by private bus to Ehden, a 110 km ride. Ehden is a mountain town of Northern Lebanon (1.400 m) where we stay overnight in a lodge.

Next day, we hike with our day pack among cedar trees to the panoramic ridges dominating Ehden, then down to “Midane”, the traditional town square. This is a charming place worth a pause with cafés in the shade of old plane trees and a Medieval chapel. Later we continue by a steep footpath in the luxuriance of Qozhaya valley beneath, via a waterfall, to end at an isolated shepherd’s house. We stay there for the night. Overall duration: 7 hours.

On day three, we carry the necessary for two day, the remaining luggage will be transported to our stay the next day. After breakfast, we walk down to the nearby Qozhaya monastery, home of the 1st printing press in the East and visit of the famous madmen cave. Later we continue to Fradis hamlet for the pilgrim’s trail of lower Qadisha, the saintly valley, a World Heritage site. The trail climbs steep to the cave hermitage of Haouqa and continues flat, crossing the right flank of the deep valley below, to Qannoubine, where we pause at “Our Lady of Qannoubine”. We spend the night at an another isolated house of Qannoubine left bank.
Overall duration: 8 hours.

On day four, we hike up the Qadisha to “Mar Licha” monastery, built in the face of the cliff. On the way, we detour in a luxuriant tributary to see high watermills and “Deir as-Salib”, a painted Medieval cave chapel. The last section of the day’s trail goes really steep up the cliff to Bcharreh, native town of Khalil Gibran, author of “The Prophet”. We transfer after that by private bus to the Cedars, a 20 minute drive, where we promenade in the 1000-year old cedar grove.
Overall duration: 6 hours.

On day five, we cross the mountains of Mt. Lebanon, climb the high plateau with a great view of the Bekaa valley. If you want, we can continue to the top of the highest point at 3.087 m (this is an optional detour of 1.5 hours). We will continue to a panoramic pass we start our descent.
Overall duration: 8. hours, including the summit.

The next day we spend in the Bekaa valley on a easy trail above the valley. We will also visit the most important Roman site in the Middle East – Baalbek. Later we transfer to the ‘Ammiq swamps which are renowned, being an important stop on the route of migrating birds.
