Travel Offer: Skitouring at Mt. Kazbek
Description: We meet and greet you at the Tbilisi Airport, from where we transfer by private car to Gudauri ski resort (2.200 m). Once there, we have a rest, warm up and go skiing on the slope using ski lifts or we have a short ski tour. Overnight we stay at a hotel. Next day brings our first peak: Mt.Dedaena (3.488 m). We drive to the Cross Pass and start from there. It is an easy ski tour of 800 m altitude gain and about 3-4 hours. After coming back to the car, we continue towards Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), where we will establish our basecamp in a guesthouse.
On day 3, we head out for the Bethlemy hut. We drive up as far as possible by car, then reach the Gergeti Triniti church (at 2.200 m). Later, we have to cross the Gergeti glacier before arriving after 6-8 hours at the hut at 3.653 m. From here, you can overview a big section of the Caucasus. The next day, we will use the time to acclimatize by skitouring to altitudes of 4.300m and stay again at the Betlemi Hut.
Day 5 is our summit day. We start early at 04:00 in the morning and climb constantly towards the peak. The last strech may be icy and we may use crampons. After 6 hours we reach the top of Mount Kazbek (5.047 m). The descent to the hut is fantastic. Day 6 is a reserve day in case of difficult weather.
